We met Fleur (she/her) through some of our hot and spicy friends, and we immediately were very impressed by the work she makes. Her photos grab us by the 'lurven' (as we would say in Dutch), which translates to 'being grabbed by the throat' - or something like it...You get our point. We love love LOVE her photos and the hotness it shows. We wanted to get to know her better, so we decided to talk to her about the work she makes, what get's her fire burning and how she prioritises her pleasure. Emerging artist Fleur van Leeuwen spent most of her studies searching for a way to shine a light on a beautiful community. Breaking through boundaries with her designs. Giving her people a stage. A stage to shine. Visualise this: a very big desk in a crowded atelier. Not much of the surface is visible. Because it is covered in photographs, pieces of fabric from previous projects, vintage boudoir books and hidden polaroids. Listening to either true crime podcasts or ’70/’80 classics, you will find Fleur. Combining images, sketches and text she is finding a new vision. A new project is emerging.
Treasure hunting in my local thrift store is one of my biggest inspirations. You’ll never know what treasure you will find next. A new book, a painting or a green uranium teacup. I love to combining weird things that don’t always fit together. But will combine a theme together in the final images. Almost everything can be inspirational. Connecting on Instagram with my favourite fellow artists is also high on the list. People like Vex Ashley and Fecal Matter. I would LOVE to work together with them. My desk is always a mash of different images like polaroids and magazines. I love creating new concepts through connecting these images. Collaging helps to bring peace in my brain when working on a new project. It also helps a lot with creating a story or characters.
My perfect setting is in a safe space with a trusted partner that I love very deeply. It’s a place where we can both be ourselves and let the ‘real’ world be forgotten for a moment. We are together in this moment. With no restrictions. Or are there…
As a horrible workaholic, I find this quite hard sometimes. I try to squeeze some time off into my schedule. But I will always find myself at my desk with my bedazzler or sketching new ideas. But I love investing in myself sometimes. Some beautiful lingerie pieces as a form of prioritising my own pleasure. Or something new for me and my partner to try out when we take some time off.
